How to save live earth and at the same time keep cool

With triple digit temperatures expected throughout the week, it's important to stay cool, but also save energy while doing it.

PG&E is helping Valley residents accomplish both with their 'Flex Your Power Now' program. The program offers helpful tips to residents trying to beat the heat without having to pinch their pocketbook.

Here's a look at PG&E's 'Flex Your Power Now!' plan:

Flex Your Power Now! is an electricity conservation alert system designed to prevent stage one electrical emergencies, as declared by the California Independent System Operator.

Quick Powering-Down Tips:

* Turn off unneeded lights, computers and appliances
* Set thermostat to 78°F or higher when you're home
* Set thermostat to 85°F or off when you're away
* Use major appliances and equipment after 7 P.M.

In the event that power supply or delivery emergencies occur this summer, the public will receive important early-warning information from Pacific Gas and Electric Company, the states other utilities, government, businesses and the mass media.
You can do your part to help the state by practicing conservation and installing energy-efficient appliances which will in turn help save energy and money this summer and throughout the year.

Easy Ways to Save Energy and Money:

* $35 could be yours just for inviting PG&E to pick up your old home refrigerator for recycling
* Small and medium-sized business customers can still take advantage of several PG&E rebates and incentives
* Business customers can reduce energy use when supplies are low and get financial incentives by participating in PG&Es demand response programs.
* Discounts on lighting products are available at hundreds of retailers
